What do you do at Camarda Wealth?
I am the Chief Compliance Officer. I help reduce risk to our clients and our firm by ensuring adherence with regulatory requirements and firm policies. Basically, I’m the person that makes sure all the rules are followed.
What are your credentials/past experience, for working in your position?
I have worked in financial services for over 20 years, moving into a compliance officer role 7 years ago. I started in the financial world while completing dual Bachelor degrees – one in Banking & Finance and one in Financial Services. Throughout my career, I have held both client facing and back office roles at companies such as EverBank, Northwestern Mutual, Ameriprise Financial, Fidelity Investments, and Deutsche Bank. Working in various capacities has given me the unique perspective of being able to understand both the needs of the clients and of the business. I hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree and am currently working toward my Investment Advisor Certified Compliance Professional (IACCP ®) designation.
What is something the investing public has to deal with that you want to fix?
I feel like people have a lot of fear when it comes to investing – fear that comes from not being educated about investing themselves and also from not having confidence in who they are trusting to advise them. I would love to see more quality education available, both for the average investor to understand the basics and also for professionals who really want to improve their knowledge and elevate the profession.
What do you like about working at Camarda Wealth?
I enjoy the small team approach that we take with everything we do. I also love, as the compliance officer, that we have quality professionals that I know I can count on to comply with procedures and regulatory requirements. They allow me to guide them and don’t hesitate to come to me with questions. Employees working in partnership with compliance ensures the firm and its employees are always doing what is right for the client.
Favorite Podcasts / Books:
I tend to prefer reading things that add to my knowledge in some way. Whether expanding my professional knowledge, reading up on current events, home improvement tutorials, exploring a new hobby, or catching up on the latest family or parenting advice…if I’m going to take the time to read it, I want to learn or better understand something. Of course, as a mom to two young children, most of my reading these days involves children’s books!
What is your background?
I was born and raised in Central Florida. I moved to the Jacksonville area to attend college and just never left!
What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my family. My husband Will and I are blessed to be parents to two very active young children. We spend a lot of time driving around the largest city in the US, while simultaneously loving and hating that we have allowed our children to be involved in so many extracurricular activities.
