Meet David J. Smith:

Business Development Officer

What do you do at Camarda Wealth?

My work mostly revolves around identifying what our potential clients are looking for in a financial advisor and informing them of the scope of expertise Camarda Wealth Advisory Group can provide. Additionally, I extend the educational materials and other information on the services our firm offers, assist in establishing a relationship with Camarda Wealth and help Dr. Camarda prepare our Portfolio Stress Tests.

What are your credentials/past experience, for working in your position?

I am currently a senior at the University of North Florida double majoring in Finance & Financial Planning. Prior to my enrollment at UNF, I served in the United States Navy for four years as an Operations Specialist, achieving the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer prior to separating.

What is something the investing public has to deal with that you want to fix?

I think many people today lack the proper knowledge of how much money they should be saving, as well as how much they could grow their savings by investing some of it. I believe many people feel scared of the risks that can potentially be associated with investments, and miss out on many opportunities as a result.

What do you like about working at Camarda Wealth?

I really admire the fiduciary aspect of our approach. Some of the other firms’ approach in advising their clients is very misleading, and as a result, millions of Americans are misrepresented by their advisors when it boils down to their clients’ best interests. This is a major issue in the financial services industry, and the fee-only approach here is unique in this regard.

What is your background?

I was born and raised in Carmel, Indiana. I was very involved in sports growing up, trying to play a bit of everything, but the three I am still active in are lacrosse, basketball and golf, lacrosse being my best sport. I played on my high school lacrosse team and played one year for UNF. I spent four years in the military, which really broadened my perspective on life and led me to pursue a career in business, which later became narrowed down to financial services. I earned an A.A. in Business Administration from Saint Leo University while on Active Duty before I enrolled at UNF to finish my B.B.A in Finance & Financial Planning.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?

I love spending time with my family more than anything in the world. My better half, Jordan, and I just had a little girl in December 2018, Rowan Jane Smith. Being Rowan’s father is far and away the greatest privilege I have in life. I love following the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers, I also became a Jaguars season ticket holder after moving to Jacksonville, so I have some love for DUUUVAL as well. Additionally, I enjoy reading, cooking, fitness, and all of the wonderful things to do around the First Coast.
